Following the Bondi Beach shooting that killed 15 people, a flood of misinformation has circulated online. Some Indian media outlets and social media accounts have claimed a link to Pakistan. This narrative is false, misleading, and remains unverified by credible authorities. Verified information from Australian sources confirms the attackers were a father?son duo residing in New South Wales: the father, Sajid Akram, immigrated in 1998; his son Naveed was born in Australia. Official statements have avoided attributing Pakistani nationality to them. Nevertheless, Pakistani nationals or from Lahore claims appeared across numerous Indian outlets and social feeds. This pattern mirrors a documented strategy to exploit crises for geopolitical smear against Pakistan. Times Now Navbharat broadcast a false report with dramatic graphics claiming Indian forces entered Pakistan, which was later debunked. International fact-checkers at the Reuters Institute noted that during that period, a month?s worth of misinformation bombarded social media within a few hours, much of it amplified by Indian television. The current false narrative about the Bondi attackers follows this established playbook. The campaign was so reckless that it ensnared an innocent Australian named Naveed Akram, who publicly pleaded for people to stop circulating his photo falsely identifying him as the shooter. While Pakistani authorities condemn terrorism, elements within some Indian media continue propaganda efforts to deflect from domestic challenges by maligning Pakistan. The international community must recognize and reject fabricated news designed to sow discord and damage Pakistan's reputation.
